The Sketchbook Project 2013

Today was a bittersweet day for me. Last year, around May, I purchased my first sketchbook from The Sketchbook Project by the Brooklyn Art Library. It's a very cool project that gets me excited about drawing and sharing my work. Today was my last day to see it in person, as it made its way to a new home in Brooklyn.

My sketchbook, titled "Awake My Soul", will go on a tour of the US with thousands of other sketchbooks from thousands of other artists from thousands of other cities. When it eventually makes its way back to Brooklyn, it will become a permanent archive in the Brooklyn Art Library.

So cool!

It was one of the craziest, coolest, most thought provoking projects I've ever taken on and in a way, I was so sad to see it go! But there's something to be said for sharing your work with strangers. Like they'll see a glimpse of me even though they might be two thousand miles away. The theme focused around song lyrics and stories. It's truly amazing the things we miss in the songs we listen to. Words are much more powerful than we give them credit for.

So, anyway, I mailed it off today...but guess what? My next SBP was waiting for me in the mail! :)

So without further adieu, here's a little piece of me. Click the pictures to zoom.
